Our Services
Web Design
We offer web design using WordPress, Squarespace and e-commerce software, including Shopify. This includes assistance with design where we talk to you about your ideas, values and aspirations, and then develop a website specifically for you. We can offer advice on domain names and hosting providers. We will source images for your website that reflect you and your business. You will be in control of the process.
Copyediting & proofreading
Steel Swan differentiates copyediting from proofreading. What is the difference?
Copyediting aims “to achieve accuracy, clarity and consistency in a document” (IPEd 2021). This form of editing does not involve much rewriting or significant changes to the document (that is substantive editing). However, copyediting will look at formatting, consistency in style, clarity, readability, grammar, punctuation and syntax. If the document is of the academic variety, it will also involve reference checking.
Proofreading, on the other hand, checks that the document is ready to be published. It is presumed that a copyeditor has already gone through the document and the proofreader will ensure that all changes have been made. Grammar, punctuation and syntax will also be checked (see our prices).
Design
Steel Swan performs two distinct types of design: Logo and educational design.
Logo design:
At Steel Swan, we will ask that you provide a brief, with our assistance, so we can get an idea of what you want as a logo. This will include information on what your business represents and what your ideas are, colours, fonts and so forth. The finished logo will be provided to you in all possible formats so that you can apply them to letterheads and merchandise such as pens and T-shirts. If you wish to have a business card designed around your logo, we can do that too.
Educational design:
Steel Swan has an extensive background in designing and developing interactive online educational material, mainly for the University sector. Both Chris and Georgia have worked for the University of Adelaide, and are highly skilled in Powerpoint and Articulate Storyline. We can also edit and produce videos, develop illustrations and animations, and composite various media into a finished product. We have worked extensively with Blackboard and Canvas. While most online material is now produced inhouse at Universities, we still offer this service as the same principles can be applied to any educational material, including videos for medical and dental waiting rooms, and training videos.
